Suzanne Swannie specializes in contemporary carpet designs, drawn for both industrial and hand manufacture. Her production also includes personal unique studio work.
Suzanne's work has been featured in numerous North American exhibitions, and she is the recipient of several awards including the Canada Council for the Arts' Professional Artists' Grant, 2000. Her work is represented in provincial, national and private collections.
Suzanne currently works on producing contemporary rugs for public and private spaces. Her rugs are often inspired by landscapes, which can be seen in both her 'Ground Cover' and 'Shifting Ground' work. These floor coverings are elegant yet practical, and demonstrate Suzanne's technical and aesthetic excellence.
All of Suzanne's commissioned pieces are unique. Each design and colour scheme is made to complement the space where the work will be installed. Not content with what is available commercially, Suzanne selects the highest quality yarnss, and hand dyes them herself so that she can achieve what she calls a 'live' surface.
Another aspect of her design production includes prototypes for industrial textile manufacture, including furnishing fabrics and bathroom towels.
